House Republican leaders will speak Tuesday morning ahead of a key vote on the stopgap bill that would fund the government through September.
The House Rules Committee voted Monday night to advance the continuing resolution (CR), dispatching the measure to the full chamber for consideration ahead of Friday’s deadline. The CR seeks to boost funding for defense and impose cuts for non-defense programs.
Republican lawmakers have touted the stopgap as “clean,” despite Democrats’ pushback. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is hoping to clear the lower chamber and send the bill to the Senate, which will require votes from both sides to reach the 60-vote threshold.
The House Republicans’ press conference is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
