WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Moments of celebration on the field in Detroit and moments of celebration in living rooms across the DMV, and country.
Saturday was a night to remember for Washington Commanders fans, who have been waiting for decades for their favorite team to advance to the NFC Championship Game.
“I was in utter disbelief,” said Texas-based fan Siobhan Xavier. “And I think that was just my first reaction — to just jump up and start cheering, because this has been a long time coming.”
Ralph Desir Sr., celebrated by singing ‘Hail to the Commanders’ with his two sons, Ralph Jr., 8, and Kyro, 5.
“I felt like I just had him, my firstborn,” Desir said with a smile next to his son. “I don’t even know if I felt better. It might be just the same. I love you, son. I really do. I love the Commanders too.”
Desir said it’s “a family thing. Many others can relate.
Jordan Henrly caught her father celebrating after the win in North Carolina. Her dad, John, attended three Washington Super Bowls, but was overjoyed to share this moment with his family.
“I was just getting emotional that we’re doing so good,” he said. “And the biggest thing is: my kids can enjoy it now.”
For Camrie Enger and her boyfriend Erick Messer, the win was the high point of their relationship as Commanders fans.
“This is his moment,” Enger said. She took the video of Messer screaming after the victory. “He earned this.
Messer said, “I’ve been saying it since we started the playoffs: why not us?”
Washington plays Philadelphia in the NFC Championship on Sunday. The winner will advance to the Super Bowl to play either Kansas City or Buffalo.
