A man with an “extensive” criminal history who had several warrants out for his arrest was taken into custody on Sunday after he was caught allegedly stealing items from a Costco.
Deputies from the Chino Hills Sheriff’s Station responded to a theft in progress at a Costco store in Chino Hills shortly before 5 p.m., according to a media release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities quickly detained the suspect, identified as 54-year-old Thomas Weaver of Chino; the exact items he was allegedly stealing were not disclosed.
Weaver, who had several active warrants for his arrest and multiple prior petty theft convictions, was booked at the West Valley Detention Center. Inmate search records indicate he was charged with first degree burglary and petty theft with more than two prior convictions.
His court date is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
SBSD stated that after Proposition 36’s passage last month, Weaver will face increased penalties for theft and drug charges.
