FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A woman’s stop at a convenience store paid off big time, making her a millionaire.
Jennifer Ivey of Ashburn went to the 7-Eleven, located at 25465 Pleasant Valley Rd. in Chantilly, and picked up a 100X the Money scratcher from the Virginia Lottery. She went home and got to scratching. When all was said and done, she netted the game’s top prize: $5 million.
That one deserves its own line in the story:
$5 million.
“It feels amazing! It really does!” Ivey told officials as she redeemed her ticket. “I just kind of stared at it because I couldn’t believe it!”
Ivey, who had the choice of taking the full $5 million in annual payments over the course of 30 years or a one-time cash option of $3,125,000 before taxes, took the cash option. The s7-Eleven where she bought the ticket gets a $10,000 bonus.
The 100X the Money scratcher has prizes ranging from $30 to $5 million.
Ivey’s win is the second of three top prizes claimed in the game, which means there is one more that hasn’t been claimed. The chances of winning the $5 million prize are 1 in 2,652,000. The chances of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 2.82.
