FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Virginia State Police (VSP) said a man is facing several charges in connection to a deadly hit-and-run that happened in Fauquier County.
Troopers announced that 54-year-old Dennis D. Dunning, of Carlett, was arrested at his home in Fauquier on Nov. 13. His arrest comes nearly a week after state police began investigating a hit-and-run on Elk Run Road( Route 806) at Flippo Lane.
According to VSP, around 5:47 p.m. on Nov. 8, 73-year-old Garland J. Heddings, of Catlett, was walking east across Elk Run Road when he was hit by an SUV that was traveling north. Police said Heddings was then hit again by a second vehicle traveling south.
He died at the scene.
Both of the vehicles did not stop after the crash.
As the investigation continued, troopers identified Dunning as one of the alleged drivers. He was charged with felony hit-and-run, involuntary manslaughter, and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock.
Dunning is being held without bond at the Fauquier Adult Detention Center.
The crash remains under investigation.
