Surveillance cameras captured the moment a high-speed crash left a man dead in Santa Ana on Saturday morning.
The deadly collision happened near Harbor Boulevard and Croddy Way at around 9:20 a.m., Santa Ana police confirmed.
The victim was identified as Reuben Contreras, 25, a Santa Ana resident, according to the Orange County Coroner’s Office.
The video shows a Toyota Camry sedan waiting to make a left turn in the middle of the road. As the sedan turns into a parking lot, an oncoming speeding GMC pickup truck slams into the vehicle.
The high-speed impact appeared to flip the truck over as the sedan was shoved into a light pole, knocking it down. Both vehicles, which were totaled, eventually came to a stop near the side of the road.
Arriving officers found Contreras among the wreckage, unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The male driver of the pickup truck was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Residents in the area tell KTLA that the stretch of road is known for speeding drivers.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation however, police said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor.
