The hotel has caught fire multiple times in the last year.
CHANNELVIEW, Texas — A large fire burned a hotel near Channelview on Thursday afternoon. According to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, multiple fires have broken out at the location in the past.
A video feed from Houston TranStar showed a fire consuming the Fairfield Inn & Suites off I-10 East at Sheldon at about 2 p.m. Officials said the hotel was vacant.
It’s unclear what caused Thursday’s fire to start. It’s also unclear if anyone was injured. Crews with the fire marshal’s office were looking for anyone who may have been in the building. They were also making sure it wouldn’t collapse once firefighters left the scene.
Online hotel booking services showed that the hotel was “temporarily closed” and rooms were not available to book on Marriott’s website.
This is a developing story. We’ll add more details as we learn them.
