The child is said to have escaped the attention of his parents and entered the room where the dog was chained .

But the pit bull attacked him and bit him in the face and head.

The boy was left with fatal injuries.

The minor was taken to the General Hospital of Zakynthos, where he was given first aid.

He tragically died despite the doctors’ efforts.

His parents were arrested and have now been charged with manslaughter.

Authorities were told that the dog was a stray and was found next to their house about two months ago.

The family collected it to take care of it until a foster parent could be found for adoption.

It comes after a grandpa and his three-month-old granddaughter were tragically found dead after allegedly being mauled by a pack af deadly pit bulls.

Cops were forced to gun down the seven dogs after they attacked 50-year-old James Alexander Smith and the little tot in their Tennessee home.

They rushed to the scene to find Smith’s lifeless body inside the house, while the infant was still being mauled by the family’s pack of dogs.

She tragically died by the time cops fought their way to her.

Neighbour Rebecca Adams said the newborn’s heartbroken mother was screaming “my baby” as authorities broke into the house to save the victims.

She said the pitbulls constantly broke loose from the yard and went after other neighbourhood pets – terrorising the whole area.
