Park Forest police are investigating the deaths of two women who were discovered Thursday night in a home on the 300 block of Miami Street.
Police said they responded to a report of a gunshot victim, and also found two unharmed children in the home where the women were found with gunshot wounds at 6:08 p.m.
One woman, identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as 51-year-old Lillian K. Brown, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other woman, 30-year-old Sabrina McCain, was taken to St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, where she was pronounced dead, the medical examiner reported.
The children were also taken to hospitals as a precaution, police said.
Park Forest police said the victims and an unnamed suspect were acquainted with each other. The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force was activated, and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit was called to assist the Park Forest Investigations Unit, police said.
On Friday morning, the typically quiet street was eerily silent as detectives entered homes to speak with neighbors.
“You would’ve never thought that something like this would happen on Miami St.,” one neighbor told the Tribune. “It’s tragic.”
The neighbor, who declined to be identified, said more than two dozen vehicles lined the street Thursday night, with drones flying overhead. While first responders left the scene at about 2 am, there’s been consistent traffic on the street since the deaths occurred, he said.
A crowd of onlookers stood a distance away from the police activity, while others watched behind screen doors as law enforcement strolled up and down the street.
Police ask anyone with information to call the investigations unit at 708-748-1309.
