MINNEAPOLIS (NewsNation) — U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., said Sunday that Minneapolis has had three homicides in 2026, and federal agents are responsible for two of them.

“There have been three killings in Minneapolis since the beginning of the year,” she said on NBC’s “Meet the Press. “Two have been committed by federal agents, one ICE, and the other Border Patrol. That’s what we’re dealing with here.”

Klobuchar, who has filed paperwork to run for governor but has yet to publicly launch a campaign to succeed Gov. Tim Walz, made the comments on the heels of the killing of ICU nurse Alex Pretti.

Pretti, 37, was killed by a Border Patrol officer after stepping in when an immigration officer shoved a woman. Pretti can be seen with only a phone in his hand. No footage appears to show him brandishing a weapon, although the videos don’t show every moment leading up to the confrontation.

Pretti is seen being held down by several officers when someone says, “Gun, gun.” An officer appears to pull a handgun from Pretti’s waist area and begins moving away. Then, the first shot is heard.

He was licensed to carry a concealed weapon.

Pretti’s killing comes just weeks after Renee Good, a U.S. citizen, was repeatedly shot by an ICE officer in Minneapolis on Jan. 7. Videos show she was turning the wheels of her Honda Pilot away from officer Jonathan Ross when he opened fire. Trump administration officials have repeatedly defended Ross, claiming his life was at risk.
