(NewsNation) — State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce says Americans will see “many more steps” toward deportations of criminals as the Trump administration continues to foster partnerships with countries willing to detain deportees.
Bruce told NewsNation that the Trump administration has cultivated good relationships with El Salvador, which offered to take third-party nationals removed from the U.S.
El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, has had several conversations with Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the cooperation, according to Bruce.
“He asked specifically for a couple of MS-13 members that are wanted back in El Salvador and another about 21 major gang leaders who also wanted to return out of the United States to face justice in their home country,” Bruce said.
“This is a great resolution. We appreciate it. It certainly is a step that we will see many more steps when it comes to the deportation of foreign nationals, illegal aliens, gang members, and certainly in some cases, terrorist gang members, back to their home countries.”
Bruce said the focus of the deportations is to further Trump’s commitment to “make America safe again.”
