MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) – There is a major cleanup taking place in parts of Montgomery County after Thursday’s storm system brought gigantic hail, heavy wind and rain.
A massive tree branch fell in front of the historic Edward U. Taylor school, and there was a similar situation down the road, where parts of a tree crashed down on Joanne Keith’s home.
“The roof has suffered damage,” Keith said. “The whole dormer as you can see is covered up. The tree is on the porch; the porch has suffered. If you go on the other side of the house, the tree is actually hanging on my power line.”
She worries more problems could be in store.
“I’m afraid that tree, that big limb is going to continue to break the power, and possibly start a fire,” she said.
Her home didn’t lose power during the storm, but she said there were heavy winds and golf ball-sized hail pelting the outside of her house.
“It took out one of the basement windows and there’s holes in the siding. You know obviously, the wind damage tearing the trees down and everything,” Keith said.
Keith said with all that’s happened in the last 24 hours, she’s feeling overwhelmed.
“Because of all this and everything we’re going to have to do to clean it up, and how the insurance companies going to react and if I’m going to have to fight with them,” she said.
DC News Now spoke with crews in the area and they said several trees and power lines were downed by the storm. Crews are working to fix those issues.
