Emergency crews were called to the Sawtelle neighborhood on Los Angeles’ Westside after a trash truck with compressed gas cylinders caught fire Wednesday morning.
The incident was reported shortly before 8 a.m. in the 2000 block of South Granville Avenue, according to an alert from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“Firefighters arrived on scene to find a city sanitation truck in a city yard, fully involved with fire,” Fire Department spokesperson Lantz said.
Crews identified compressed natural gas cylinders on top of the truck, with at least one pressure relieving device (PRD) “activated and releasing gas.”

Around 30 firefighters were at the scene managing the blaze with nearby structures being evacuated, Lantz said.
The crews were also said to be monitoring the CNG cylinders as they cooled.
