ROCKVILLE, Md. (DC News Now) — Not sure where to trash your Thanksgiving food scraps? The City of Rockville has you covered with its compost sites.
Rockville offers residents food scrap drop-off sites, making composting easy and accessible. This helps keep materials out of landfills and reduces excessive greenhouse gas emissions. The sites are free and open 24/7.
How to use the drop-off sites:
- Place food scraps in a container (such as empty coffee containers with sealing lids). Be sure to take out any plastic or trash.
- Empty your container into the designated bins at one of the Food Scraps Drop-Off sites in Rockville.
- Rinse your container and repeat.
Food scraps you can compost include leftover stuffing, mashed potatoes, pie – essentially any Thanksgiving staples you might have. Plastic, non-compostable plastic bags, oyster or clam shells, grease, fats and oils, however, are not compostable.
