WASHINGTON — Chicken fried rice products sold at Trader Joe’s are being recalled after multiple customers reported finding glass inside the food.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said nearly 3.4 million pounds of the frozen chicken fried rice products are impacted.
Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., a Portland, Ore. establishment, recalled two types of fried rice: the “Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice” and “Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice with stir fried rice, vegetables, seasoned dark chicken meat and eggs.”
The Trader Joe’s branded items were sold nationwide, while the Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken items were shipped to and sold in Canada.
The products have establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA mark of inspection, which can be found on the front, bottom corner of the packaging. See all the labels here.
The Trader Joe’s bags have a “best by” date of Sept. 8, 2026, through Nov. 17, 2026.
There are no confirmed reports of injury due to these items, but the FSIS encourages anyone concerned about an injury to contact their doctor.
FSIS encourages customers to throw the items away or return them to the place of purchase. It’s unclear whether customers will get a refund if they return them to the store.
