Three men were seriously injured in a house explosion in unincorporated Hebron Friday evening, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s office.
The explosion happened at about 6:15 p.m. at a home in the 4200 block of East 181st Avenue, Sheriff’s spokeswoman Pam Jones said in a release Friday. Initial information indicates that the men were cleaning out the home at the time, she said.
Two men, ages 49 and 39 are hospitalized with serious burns. A third man, 64 years old, is hospitalized with other injuries from the blast, she said.
The house was engulfed in flames and the fire spread to nearby farm fields, Jones said. Several area fire departments responded to the scene.
The Indiana State Fire Marshal and Porter County Bomb Squad were called to the scene, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms was notified, she said.
No further details will be released at this time.
