President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, said during a Fox News interview that he believes leaked information about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids is coming “from the inside.”
Officials this week condemned the release of a report by the Los Angeles Times that revealed a “large scale” operation would hit the area before the end of the month. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem suggested Sunday the FBI might have contributed to the leak of the information.
Homan said the secretary might be on the right track.
“We think it’s coming from the inside,” he said on Monday during the Fox News interview. “We know the first leak in Aurora [Colorado] is under investigation, we’ve identified that person. Under investigation right now is the California leak. Secretary Noem, she’s correct on some of the information we’re receiving tends to lead toward the FBI.”
Those responsible for the leaks, he added, would not only lose their jobs, but could face prosecution.
“We’re sending a strong message,” Homan said. “It’s just not giving the bad guys a heads up so they can escape apprehension.
“You’re putting officers’ lives at risk. It’s only a matter of time until we walk into a place and there’s a bad guy who doesn’t care, he’s going to be sitting in wait for the officers to show up and ambush him. This is not a game.”
His comments come as ICE continues to deport those living in the country illegally. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth last week on X announced that a deportation flight from the U.S. had arrived at Guantanamo Bay.
Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, however, expressed outrage over the operation and accused the secretary of misusing taxpayer dollars.
“These measures are nothing more than unnecessary and cruel political theater and a gross misuse of federal funds and military personnel,” she wrote on X.
