An on-duty police officer in Huntington Beach was involved in a traffic collision that sent around a half dozen people to the hospital, making it the department’s second injury-involved collision in less than a month, according to multiple media reports.

The multi-injury collision unfolded at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Williams Drive, police spokesperson Jessica Cuchilla told the O.C. Register, Details about the crash are limited, though Cuchilla added that the California Highway Patrol is investigating the officer-involved crash.

In photos of the crash posted to by The Register, heavy damage can be seen to the front-end passenger side of a dark-colored Kia sedan, with the outlet reporting that the officer’s patrol cruiser also sustained damage to its front end.

It is currently unclear if the officer was in the process of responding to a call and whether the lights and sirens on the patrol cruiser were on at the time of the crash.

In late February, an officer struck a man riding an electric scooter near Beach Boulevard and Heil Avenue. The man was knocked off the scooter and struck by a second vehicle.

CHP investigators told the outlet that the driver of the second vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, while the officer involved in the crash remained on regular duty.
