Chrissy Metz has shared an update on her health journey and revealed her new workout secret that’s keeping her in shape after shedding an astonishing 100 pounds.
Known for her past role as Kate Pearson in This is Us, the 44-year-old actress has been recognized for her advocacy for body positivity after portraying the plus-size character who struggled with weight and self-esteem issues.
In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Chrissy opened up about whether she’s interested in losing more weight and if she would ever take the diabetes drug Ozempic, which has caused a frenzy in Hollywood for its weight-loss side effects.
According to Chrissy, something ‘new’ that she’s been ‘consistent with’ now is weight lifting.
‘I have always enjoyed strength training. I’ve always enjoyed lifting weights, like I don’t want to run unless I’m being chased,’ she revealed, while promoting her second children’s book, When I talk to God, I Talk About Feelings.

In the past, the actress said that lost the weight by sticking to a 2,000-calorie diet and walking 20 minutes a day (pictured in 2019)
She added that she has recently been consistent with weight lifting, thanks to her personal trainer.
Based in Nashville where she resides, Chrissy’s trainer, who remains anonymous, has had a weight loss journey himself, which is what the star enjoys about working with him.
‘We have things in common where it’s not just like, “Why are you doing this?” Like I don’t want to be yelled at. I want to be lovingly supported in whatever it is that I’m doing,’ she said about working with her trainer.
What also motivates her – apart from one-on-one sessions – is knowing that her training will help her in the long run when it comes to aging.
‘I want to age the best way that I can, and I want to be strong. And that’s really the impetus behind any of it,’ she revealed.
‘I’m literally doing it because I am nervous about aging, about osteoporosis or arthritis, you know, and because they are now discovering so much about health overall [and] it’s really about being and staying strong and flexible.’
Depending on her schedule for a given week, her workout sessions vary, but when she’s into something – whether it’s ‘gardening, painting, woodwork’ – she ‘loves to go ham, all in,’ and ‘chip away just a little bit every day.’
When asked for her take on Ozempic, which some of the biggest stars have been open about, Chrissy told DailyMail.com, ‘It’s something I feel like, it is so personal and sure, I think it’s important to like destigmatize anything.

Chrissy reunited with her This is Us co-stars when she appeared in an episode of Mandy Moore, Chris Sullivan and Sterling K. Brown’s podcast, This Was Us, in October 2024

‘But I also think it’s people’s personal decision to decide what it is that they want to do for their body. I think ultimately, at the end of the day, we all just want to feel good and feel good about ourselves.’
She continued, ‘I think if you’re not hurting anybody, and you’re not hurting yourself, you should do what you feel is right for your body or your mind or whatever.’
She also said that she lives in a world where she treats people the way she wants to be treated and isn’t one to judge.
Fans have asked Chrissy in the past if she would ever consider doing gastric bypass surgery since her character Kate considered doing it on the show. It has since become the one question she hates getting from fans.
The Florida native, however, is adamant that she has ‘never’ done any surgery – and hinted that she might never undergo surgery in the future.
‘I don’t even take Tylenol, like, I really am such a weirdo that way. I’m like, “Yeah, no.”
‘I mean whatever is best for the person, but, like, also for me, with like a bariatric surgery, so much of my food issues, personally, are psychological in that like, yes, you could sort of put a band-aid on the problem,’ she explained, ‘But like, “What’s the bigger issue?” There’s a bigger issue for me.
‘It wouldn’t take with me. I could eat past it. With anything, it’s a lifestyle change.’

Chrissy revealed to DailyMail.com that she’s in a new relationship following her breakup from Bradley Collins in 2023 (pictured with her ex in November 2023)
After suffering from depression about eight years ago, Chrissy gained more than 100 pounds. When she was 30 years old, she had a ‘crazy panic attack’ that prompted her to lose weight after being hospitalized.
‘All I did was eat a 2,000-calorie diet and walk 20 minutes a day,” she said in the past about how she lost the 100 pounds she gained in less than five months.
She told DailyMail.com in her new interview, ‘Ultimately, it was because I was unhappy and I wasn’t pursuing my career, and I was, you know, very stifled.
‘And I was in a marriage [with ex Martyn Eaden] that had a lot of love, but it wasn’t the right person. So, that was like a whole different situation.’
Now, Chrissy revealed to DailyMail.com that she is now happy in a new relationship, but is choosing to keep his name private, for the time being.
‘It’s so great, it’s been amazing. It’s been really, really wonderful,’ she spilled, while noting that she’s been dating her new boyfriend – who’s not a celebrity – for ‘almost a year.’
When asked why she has chosen to keep him private, she explained, ‘You know, you learn from other choices that you’ve made and my therapist is a very big proponent in thinking that social media is the worst thing you can do for relationships.
‘I mean, to each his own, but for me it’s like, “What is my intention?” Everything I do is, “What is my intention? Do I need to let people know I’m in a relationship?” No.

The actress revealed to DailyMail.com that she wrote her second book with her ex Bradley while they were going through their breakup. However, they remain ‘friendly’ today
‘Like in any other world, 50 years ago before social media existed you probably date somebody that you met at the local grocery store, or you went to school with, and you don’t parade them around.’
She continued, ‘It’s just so interesting what our society really is about… It’s one of those things where I’m just doing things differently than I’ve done before.’
Chrissy was married to British journalist Martyn Eaden from 2008 to 2013, which was when the couple separated. Their divorce was finalized in 2015.
She went on to date This is Us cameraman Josh Stancil from 2016 to 2018, then composer Hal Rosenfeld for the next two years.
Her former relationship was with singer-songwriter Bradley Collins, who she met on a dating app, before they announced their separation in October 2023.
Bradley co-authored her children’s book, When I talk to God, I Talk About Feelings, which is hitting shelves on April 8.
The picture book that was illustrated by Lisa Fields is part of the New York Times bestselling series, When I Talk to God, I Talk About You, and is about using faith and prayer to explore the ups and downs of feelings.
Chrissy revealed that she and her ex Bradley were finishing the book when they decided to end their relationship.

Chrissy took to her Instagram to share her new book with her fans: ‘Less than two weeks away from the debut of “When I Talk to God, I Talk About Feelings.” It’s the second picture book in our children’s series and navigates little ones’ big feelings with faith and prayer. I simply can’t wait for this to be in the world. Pre-order your copy now’

‘It was interesting in like, “How will we navigate this?” And we did. I mean, luckily, we’re friendly. So it’s not awkward. Being creative, you want to see the project through, and we were so close to almost being finished. I think we actually handed in our last draft the weekend we decided to part ways.’
The Bank of Dave 2 star went on to explain that since the book is about feelings, the exes were ‘grappling with our feelings’ as they were finishing the book.
‘I was like, “We can be friends and friendly, even if we’re not supposed to be together forever,”‘ she shared, while noting that, for the most part, she has ‘always been friendly’ with anybody that she has dated.
Apart from promoting her new book, she recently wrapped a new movie in Africa called Last Day in Paradise about the 2018 Paradise Fires and is awaiting the release of the upcoming thriller, The Hunting Wives, which she stars in alongside Dermot Mulroney, Malin Akerman and Brittany Snow.
After the success of This is Us – the long-running drama series’ season six finale aired in May 2022 – Chrissy said that new opportunities have presented themselves, but she’s eager to do more comedy.
‘I think people are like, “Oh, you’re funny.” And I’m like, “You just think I’m the girl who cries a lot on TV.” I hope some comedy stuff comes down the pike,’ she said.
She’s also working on developing a one-woman show, which would include stand up comedy, music that she’s written, and her story, ‘you know, my whole journey.’
