Evan Lovett, the social media personality behind the popular L.A. in a Minute podcast and one of the biggest cheerleaders for Los Angeles, unfortunately fell victim to one of the biggest fears of Angelenos.
In a post to his social media accounts on Saturday morning, which contains profanity, Lovett revealed that his house was broken into Friday night. He arrived home from his son’s little league baseball game to find a glass door shattered and a safe missing.
Lovett said valuables, including items inherited from late family members like his parents and his wife’s grandmother, were inside the safe that was stolen.
“This s*** is unnerving,” he said in the video. “It’s not cool.”
Lovett, who has become a common guest on KTLA programming, said he was put on hold with dispatchers for 59 minutes when he called 911. He added that, when police officers finally arrived, they told him that they were understaffed.
“Luckily it’s just a home burglary — it wasn’t somebody dying, choking, that was shot or something,” he said. “But what happens if it was a real, timely emergency?”
Hiring for the Los Angeles Police Department has been a long-term goal of Mayor Karen Bass, who acknowledges that the department has been victim to understaffing.
While Lovett expresses his love for the city of L.A. in his social media postings and on his podcast, he took the opportunity to express that it still has improvements that need to be made.
“This is a problem,” he said. “It’s a real problem.”
