A Los Angeles icon, DJ “Jed the Fish,” renowned for his work behind the microphone at rock radio staple KROQ has died, according to multiple media outlets.
Born Edwin Jed Fish Gould III, according to the Los Angeles Times, Gould died under hospice care at his home in Pasadena from a fast spreading small-cell lung cancer that had only been diagnosed in March.
He was 69.

Alice, The Times reported, was Gould’s beloved dog.
Gould was hired at KROQ-FM (106.7) in 1978 and helmed the coveted afternoon drive-time hours until 2012. The legendary DJ worked at several other stations in California before returning to “ROQ of the 80s,” which aired on KROQ’s HD2 station that streamed online on Sunday nights.
A drummer in his own right, Gould was named modern rock personality of the year in 1997 and 1999 by Billboard magazine and was named as one of L.A.’s top radio personalities in 2004, The Times reported.
During his time in radio, Gould chatted on-air with numerous artists and bands, including David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Sting and the Police and U2.
In a tribute posted to Instagram, Gould’s longtime friend Paul Sinacore, a casting director, producer and drummer, wrote:
“Today I lost my dear friend Jed the Fish…the voice of a generation has signed off.”
