Bill Belichick is taking a leisurely approach to his second career.
Belichick — known for being a taskmaster as a coach — is routinely late for at least one of his many broadcasting gigs, according to fellow “Inside the NFL” analyst Ryan Clark.
“All the time,” Clark said on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on Tuesday night. “Shocking. And you talk to all his players, all he did was take their money every time they were late. The first day he walked in late and I thought it was this cool, ‘I’m the greatest coach of all time, I know you can’t tell me anything,’ sort of walk in late.
“So, we just all clapped for him because this is freaking Bill Belichick, right? … But he’s late every week. The funny part is he’s late for everything… And guess what? None of us tell him anything and we act like we’ve been waiting for him and it’s OK.”
Clark, Chad Johnson and Chris Long are the analysts alongside Belichick on the CW show.
It is one of many broadcasting jobs that Belichick has taken this season. He has a weekly spot on the ManningCast and “The Pat McAfee Show” on ESPN. The six-time Super Bowl-winning coach with the Patriots also hosts the “Let’s Go!” and “Coach” podcasts.
“He’s actually really good on television and he’s probably going to hate that I say this, if he said all the stuff on TV that he says in the meetings, you’d love him even more. He hates everything,” Clark said, noting how hard it is for players to impress Belichick.
It remains to be seen how long his career as an NFL broadcaster lasts.
Belichick spent 24 years coaching the Patriots but was fired in January after going 4-13 in his final campaign.
He interviewed twice for the Falcons job last season but that ultimately went to Raheem Morris.
The Jets and Saints have already fired their coaches and plenty of more openings are expected by the time Black Monday rolls around.
The belief remains that Belichick does want to return to the sidelines even if he will be 73 by the time next season rolls around.
In the meantime, though, he has been keeping busy between broadcasting and his blooming romance with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson.
