A devastating earthquake struck Myanmar and neighboring Thailand, resulting in the deaths of at least 150 people, primarily in Myanmar, on Friday.
The quake caused the collapse of a bridge and a dam. In Bangkok, seven people lost their lives, and dozens were buried when a high-rise building under construction collapsed.
The 7.7-magnitude earthquake, which hit at midday on Friday and had its epicenter near Myanmar’s second-largest city, Mandalay, was followed by a significant 6.4-magnitude aftershock.
The full scope of the fatalities, injuries, and destruction remained unclear as of Friday evening local time.
