A FAMILY had to make a terrifying climb after they were left dangling 150ft in the air at a sky-dining restaurant.
The family of four, including two children, were rescued on Friday after a crane malfunction left them stranded in the sky.
They were stuck in the air for more than two hours at the attraction in Kerala, India.
Muhammed Safwan, 31, his wife, Thoufeena, 25, and their two children were visiting from Kozhikode.
Fire and rescue teams from Munnar and Adimali arrived at 4pm, where emergency workers climbed ropes to reach the suspended dining platform.
The family were forced to climb down the ropes – assisted by rescuers.
The children and Thoufeena came down first, followed by Safwan and 28-year-old restaurant worker Haripriya, and were all safe on the ground by 4.30pm.
A net was placed beneath the crane during the rescue operation.
In the aftermath, officials said the incident was caused by a suspected hydraulic failure in the crane.
Witnesses told local media the family had been trapped since 1.30pm.
Residents alerted the authorities, after the restaurant management failed to do so.
A restaurant employee later said there had been no panic during the ordeal, explaining that staff are trained for such emergencies.
The sky-dining experience was recently established by Southern Skies Aerodynamics.
It is part of the hill district’s adventure tourism program, designed to attract visitors with unique dining experiences high above the landscape.
Devikulam Subcollector V.M. Arya said there were no guidelines for operating such adventure tourism facilities.
A report has been requested from a village officer who was concerned about the ordeal.
She said further action would be taken.
