Two teens in Orange County have been arrested in connection with two fires set at a middle school late last year, officials announced Thursday.
In a post to Instagram, officials with the Huntington Beach Police Department said the teens broke into a middle school in October and December 2024 while the campus closed and “set numerous items on fire.”
The fires, according to police, caused thousands of dollars in damage to the school.
It was only after an extensive investigation into the break ins and fires by a school resource officer working along HBPD’s Detectives Bureau that they identified the two juveniles as local high school students.
Both of teens were taken into custody and booked in Orange County Juvenile Hall for arson.
“Arson poses a significant risk to life and property, and persons convicted of the crime can face substantial penalties, including jail time, monetary restitution and the possibility of registering as an arsonist for the rest of the lives,” police said.
Authorities did not provide any information about which high school the teens attend, nor which middle school where the fires were started.
