Doctors found the clot fatally swelled her brain.

Áine had been taking the Femodette contraceptive pill since 2020.

But last year, a nurse told her to stop when a routine check-up revealed raised blood pressure.

A month later, her GP told her to resume the Pill, fearing waiting any longer risked a stroke.

But he told Áine, of Bolton, Gtr Manchester, to monitor her blood pressure, the inquest heard.

Bolton coroner Peter Sigee said medications had side effects for “one in 10,000” and that Femodette directly contributed to Áine’s death.

He concluded it was caused by a “rare complication of appropriately prescribed medication”.

A statement from her family paid tribute to the ‘most beautiful, caring, funny and sensible girl’.

They said: “Áine adored her parents, her brother, her grandparents, her aunts, uncles, cousins, boyfriend and friends.

“She was the life and soul of every gathering and was often heard before she was seen, as she had the loudest voice ever.

“Our family is distraught at losing her, life will never be the same for us without our girl.”
