Emergency crews battled a tanker fire leaking liquid nitrogen on Beltway 8, impacting traffic and prompting a hazardous materials response.
HOUSTON — Emergency crews responded to a tanker fire involving liquid nitrogen on Beltway 8 northbound near Beechnut Street, according to the Houston Fire Department.
HFD dispatch said the call came in around 8:39 p.m. Crews arrived to find a tanker on fire, with officials confirming it was carrying liquid nitrogen and actively leaking the substance.
Firefighters remained on scene working to extinguish the fire, while hazardous materials teams were requested to assist.
Authorities have not released information about any injuries and said the incident remains under investigation.
According to Houston TranStar, the right shoulder, right lane and three frontage road lanes of Beltway 8 northbound were affected.
