TAKOMA PARK, Md. (DC News Now) — Montgomery County and National Capital Park officials are investigating after someone stole a vehicle from 7-Eleven and crashed it into a creek early Wednesday morning.
Shortly after midnight on Oct. 16, officers with the Takoma Park Police Department responded to the 900 block of Merrimac Drive for a stolen vehicle.
Police said the victim told officers that their 2018 black Ford Explorer was stolen moments after they parked.
During the investigation, Takoma Park police said officers were notified of a crash in the Sligo Creek Parkway and Heather Avenue area.
This was just minutes away from 7-Eleven.
Once on the scene, officers discovered a vehicle engulfed in flames and about 20 feet down a creek.
After fire and rescue personnel put out the fire, police said first responders searched the vehicle and area but did not find any victims.
It was later revealed that the vehicle involved in the crash was the same stolen Ford from 7-Eleven.
The Takoma Park Police Department is investigating the crash and the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office and Capital Park police are investigating the fire.
