A 46-year-old man arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in North Hollywood over the weekend has been identified.
In a news release, officials with the Los Angeles Police Department identified Carlos Meza as the suspect in the fatal Feb. 15 shooting in the 11100 block of Magnolia Boulevard, an area lined with bars, restaurants, coffee shops and apartments.
Investigators said Meza and the victim, 32-year-old Luke Reynolds were engaged in a verbal altercation, though it was not immediately clear what it was about, when the 46-year-old allegedly pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, killing the victim.
Meza then reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle.
On Feb. 16, officers with LAPD’s Gang and Narcotics Division Fugitive Task Force located the 46-year-old just over two miles from the scene in the area of Vineland Avenue and Vanowen Street in North Hollywood.
Officials said officers did deploy “use-of-force” during Meza’s arrest but did not provide any further details, saying only that he was treated at a local hospital before being booked at the Van Nuys Jail for murder. He is being held without bail.
On Sunday evening, a crowd of mourners gathered in front Granville restaurant where a vigil was held, and a small altar was created in remembrance of Reynolds.
Authorities have not yet released a motive for the shooting.
