A former Southwest Side resident on the FBI’s list of “Ten Most Wanted” people was arrested in Mexico on Thursday in connection with the 2012 stabbing death of his new wife, the agency announced.
Authorities charged Arnoldo Jimenez, 42, with stabbing Estrella Carrera to death in May 2012 after she was found in the bathtub of her Burbank apartment, still wearing her wedding dress. Carrera left behind a 2-year-old son, whom she shared with Jimenez, and a 9-year-old daughter, according to Tribune reporting at the time.
Relatives told the Tribune their relationship had been “tumultuous” and described Jimenez, now 42, as “possessive” and “jealous.”
The couple had married at Chicago City Hall about 48 hours before Carrera was found dead in the sequined, silver cocktail dress she’d worn for the reception.
Burbank police issued a warrant for Jimenez’s arrest two days after her body was discovered. A federal warrant soon followed and the FBI added Jimenez, of the Brighton Park neighborhood, to its most wanted list in 2019.
He was taken into custody in Monterrey, Mexico, on Thursday without incident, according to an FBI news release.
