A 19-year-old man, sought for felony charges, was arrested after a dramatic pond chase, during which he allegedly attempted to drown a police dog.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Deputies arrested a man on Monday after a dramatic chase that ended in a pond, during which a police dog sustained injuries.
According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the man was wanted on felony warrants when deputies spotted him on Lockwood Drive near Hirsch Road.
He crashed his car into a ditch and ran toward a nearby pond. Deputy Almeida and K-9 Ghost pursued him into the water, where Ghost bit the man as he allegedly tried to drown the dog to escape.
Deputies entered the pond to assist in detaining him. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of his bite injuries, and K-9 Ghost was treated at a veterinary clinic. No deputies were injured.
The suspect already had warrants for Injury to a Child and Interfering with 911 Services. He now faces additional charges, including Evading Arrest and Interfering with a Service Animal.
