A suspect was arrested after a man was found shot to death in a Riverside parking lot.

The suspect was identified as Jose Leon Navarrette, 25, of Riverside.

On Feb. 21, Riverside police responded to reports of gunfire in the AutoZone parking lot on the 1900 block of University Avenue at around 10:45 p.m.

Arriving officers spotted a vehicle where the victim, Carlos Delreal, 52, was found with gunshot wounds inside.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooter had fled the area before authorities arrived.

Homicide detectives later identified Navarrette as the suspected gunman. On Feb. 27, he was located and taken into custody at a motel in Colton. He was arrested for murder and is being held without bail.

The suspect, Jose Leon Navarrette, 25, is seen in a booking photo from the Riverside Police Department.

Detectives did not reveal whether the suspect and victim were known to each other. The circumstances leading up to the deadly shooting remain unclear. No further details were released as the case remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Mike Smith at 951-353-7103 or [email protected], or Detective Ricky Barajas at 951-353-7213 or [email protected].
