Stanton voters are electing representatives for District 2 and District 4, and for Measure HH early returns Tuesday night showed voters overwhelmingly supporting the measure that would set mayoral term limits.
In District 2, incumbent Hong Alyce Van was challenged by Victor Barrios, who had jumped to an early lead on Tuesday night.
With longtime Councilmember Carol Warren not running again, the winner of the District 4 race between Mike Montgomery and John Douglas Warren guarantees one new person will be sworn onto the Stanton council. Warren was leading that race by a large margin Tuesday night.

Van joined the council in 2019; as the daughter of Vietnamese refugees, she is its first Asian American member.
Barrios, a special education educator, has also served on the city’s Community Services Commission.
Montgomery, one of the two candidates for the District 4 seat on the council, is an electrician.
Challenging him for District 4 is Warren, an accountant supervisor and creative lead at Antarra Communications, who has previously served on the city’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission and the county parks commission. He said he’s a third-generation resident of the city.
Measure HH would establish a lifetime limit on serving as the city’s mayor.
If approved by a simple majority of votes, mayors going forward would be able to serve two four-year terms, mirroring the term limits previously set in 2016 by voters for councilmembers. The city attorney’s office had given the opinion that Measure RR did not apply to the mayor’s position because it was voted in before the mayor became an elected seat.
