A standout college athlete at the University of Miami was involved in a crash over the weekend that killed three people, including two children, according to multiple media reports.

A linebacker for the Miami Hurricanes, 20-year-old Adarius Hayes, was reportedly involved in the two-vehicle accident May 11 at around 1:45 p.m. in his hometown of Largo, Florida, located about 20 miles east of Tampa and 15 north of St. Petersburg, CBS News reported.

Behind the wheel of a Dodge Durango, Hayes allegedly struck a Kia with four occupants that was making a left turn in front of his truck.

Two kids, 10-year-old Jabari Elijah Solomon and 4-year-old Charlie Herbert Solomon Rivera, were declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Kia, 78-year-old Gail Price, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital on Sunday, according to CBS News.

The Kia’s front passenger, 58-year-old Herbert Rivera, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, while Hayes was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators told CBS News that alcohol and or drugs to not appear to be a factor in the crash, and that the investigation into the exact cause of the crash is ongoing.

So far, authorities with the Largo Police Department have not filed any criminal charges.

According to UM Athletics’ website, Hayes is one of the nation’s top-ranked linebackers and was considered a four-star prospect by every major scouting service.

The 20-year-old fielded offers from Florida, Alabama, Florida State, Michigan and Notre Dame before choosing to attend UM.
