A speeding driver in Simi Valley pulled a gun on pedestrians telling him to slow down and called them a homophobic slur Tuesday morning, police said.

Just before 11:30 a.m., Simi Valley Police officers went to Cochran and Stearns street after walkers reported they “had attempted to get the attention of a passing driver because he was travelling at a high rate of speed,” the SVPD said in a news release.

“When the vehicle pulled up to the victims, the driver produced a semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at the victims, while also calling them a homophobic slur,” police said.

That driver, 24-year-old Andrew Chase of Simi Valley, was found in the 5300 block of Cochran Street, and victims identified him as the man who threatened them, police said.

During a search of the vehicle, officers say they found a loaded gun registered to Chase.

Chase did not appear in a search of jail records, but police say he was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and a hate crime.
