A mere 30 minutes after the sun set on Monday, the sky was again greeted by a streak of light when SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket across the Southern California coast.
With a liftoff time of 8:36 p.m., SpaceX launched its Starlink mission carrying 24 satellites to low-Earth orbit from the Vandenberg Space Force Base.
“There is the possibility that residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may hear one or more sonic booms during the launch, but what residents experience will depend on weather and other conditions,” SpaceX said on its website.
This was the third flight for the first stage booster in this mission, SpaceX added. After stage separation, the first stage landed on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship out in the Pacific Ocean.
Starlink, according to the company’s website, is “the world’s first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls and more.”
In addition, the satellites deliver “high-speed, low-latency internet” to its users across the globe.
