An alert pet owner and a Southern California veterinarian saved the life of a dog with a “serious sock obsession.”
According to the Corona Animal Emergency Center, Luna, a seven-month-old Bernese mountain dog, was rushed to their clinic by her family after they noticed she was vomiting and had a “firm, distended abdomen.”
X-rays showed a massive buildup of objects inside the pup.
Veterinarian Dr. Jenny quickly went to work and performed a gastrotomy to clear Luna’s stomach and an enterotomy to remove an object from her intestines.
In total, Dr. Jenny pulled out over 30 items: 24 socks, two hair ties, a scrunchie, a shoe insert, a child’s onesie and assorted pieces of cloth.
“What we found was jaw-dropping,” the animal hospital said on Instagram. “Against all odds, Luna pulled through and is now wagging her tail again.”
The vet recommended to pet parents that Luna’s story is “a reminder to trust your instincts” and that anytime a pet is vomiting, lethargic or has a firm abdomen, they should contact a veterinarian immediately.
