A Southern California man was convicted of molesting two young children for years.
John Edward Kalil, 28, of Oxnard, was found guilty of the crimes by a jury on April 28, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced.
From 2014 and 2020, Kalil molested two children who were under the age of 14 at the time. He gained access to the kids through a familial relationship and the abuse took place in the home they shared.
Both victims reported the abuse following the arrest of another family member who was also allegedly molesting them, court documents said. Prosecutors did not name the other suspect.
Kalil was arrested and convicted of six counts of child molestation. Special allegations found true included that the crimes involved more than one victim under the age of 14 and that there was substantial sexual conduct.
“The teenage victims were not only sexually abused by the defendant but are also alleged victims in a pending sexual abuse case against another family member,” said Stuart Gardner, a Ventura County District Attorney who prosecuted the case. “While the trauma they endured may never fully heal, this verdict marks the beginning of their journey toward recovery.”
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 6 at Ventura County Superior Court. Kalil faces 150 years to life in state prison. He remains in custody with no bail.
