The Please Don’t Destroy guys set their sights on spoofing The Voice this week by having Shane Gillis play a singer they’d very much like to forget.
Ego Nwodim joined Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy as coaches on the fictitious show The Sound. Nwodim played R&B model Coco Summers, Higgins was pop producer Mikey Fiesta Marshall was country swinger Cody Swiggums, and Herlihy played rock icon Eddie Thrashhorn in the bit that employed the requisite revolving chairs and red buttons.
The foursome were immediately bowled over when they hear an angelic version of “Amazing Grace” — only to turn around to find Shane Gillis as a red-haired, scooter-driving hillbilly named Reggie doing the singing.
“Let the bidding war begin,” he declared. “Who wants me?”
The coaches immediately turn back their chairs.
“It seems like the first time in The Sound history, the judges have revoked their selection,” the announced revealed.
“Hey you can’t do that. You already turn,” Gillis’ Reggie complains. “You can’t bail on me for my looks or my vibe.”
The judges realize their mistake and rotate back. Herlily’s Thrashhorn declares “let’s start fresh.”
But Reggie becomes an immediate turn-off as he says things like his “I’m what the Japanese would affectionately refer to as an Otaku” and “my greatest influence is Chris Brown but my greatest musical influence is…”
Nwodim’s Coco doesn’t wait to hear him finish the sentence. She’s turned her chair around, just like the others.
It gets worse from there. Reggie shocks the coaches by showing that he can walk but admits to using the scooter because “it helps me get laid.” He also tries to claim he’s 14 when he’s really 56.
“Dude there is no way in hell that you will ever make it as a singer,” Marshall’s Cody announces.
