Investigators with the Pasadena Police Department have released two suspect sketches in connection with the unsolved 2021 murder of 13-year-old Iran Moreno, who was shot and killed while playing video games in his bedroom.
The preliminary investigation and security footage from the night of Nov. 21, 2021, showed a gray Ford Fusion stopped in a parking lot across from the boy’s home, located in the 900 block of Raymond Avenue.
The front passenger reportedly got out and fired two gunshots eastward. That suspect, described as a Black man estimated to be 33 to 37 years old, standing 6 feet to 6 feet and 1 inch tall, and weighing between 185 and 195 pounds, then got back in the car and left with the driver.
One of the bullets went through Moreno’s bedroom wall and fatally struck him.
Family members told KTLA that he collapsed in the living room, and his father held him in his arms as they awaited an ambulance. Moreno was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Pasadena Police Department continued to investigate the murder in the days and weeks that followed, and rewards of up to $85,000 were offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction, but with little success.
However, investigators said that because of a update on the case issued last week regarding the alleged gunman’s clothing and a partial license plate on the Ford Fusion, the department received tips that led to the identity of the vehicle believed to be used in the crime and that they were able to track its movements before and after the murder.
The recently discovered witnesses were also able to help investigators create composite sketches of the suspects in the Ford Fusion, police officials said in a new release.
In addition to the alleged gunman’s description, officials said the driver of the car was a Black female with a medium complexion between the ages of 27 and 31, standing around 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 165 pounds to 185 pounds.
Anyone with information about the investigation or knowledge of the suspects is asked to contact Pasadena PD’s Robbery-Homicide and Assault investigators at 626-744-4241 at any time day or night or the homicide division at 626-744-4583.
