MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — A jury found a Silver Spring man guilty of murder, officials announced Monday.
In a news release, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office (SAO) said that 22-year-old Javier Reyes was convicted of second-degree felony murder and use of a handgun in a crime of violence.
Reyes was charged in the death of 20-year-old Walter Woods of Takoma Park.
Reyes, of Silver Spring, allegedly met with Woods for a drug deal in a neighborhood park on March 7, 2023. Officers responded to the area for a 911 call and found Woods in the playground. He had been shot four times and was not responsive.
Responders took him to the hospital, where he died.
Reyes faces up to 60 years in prison. His sentencing hearing will take place on Feb. 18, 2025.
