The teaser trailer for “Shrek 5” has sparked strong reactions on social media, with many fans unhappy about the characters’ redesigns. The trailer features older versions of Shrek, Fiona, their daughter Felicia, Donkey and Pinocchio.
On X, many fans compared the old character design to the new one, saying that DreamWorks Animation, the studio behind the movie, “ruined the characters.”
stan twitter needs to get ready and bully DreamWorks for redesigning Shrek for Shrek 5 just like when we did for Sonic. They are making fools out of us with this animation, we must revolt, bring back our childhood pic.twitter.com/NPOS7ZpyvP

Some fans are pressuring DreamWorks Animation to restore the characters to their original designs, comparing the situation to the social media backlash Paramount faced over its early “Sonic the Hedgehog” concept designs.

Still, some social media users defended the redesign, calling it “inevitable” given the original “Shrek” film’s 2001 release and advancements in animation technology.
Hot take, I like the Shrek 5 redesign 🤷🏽♂️ I just feel like the internet likes to bandwagon on hating something cause it’s trendy. People being afraid of change while also asking for something new gets so old 😭 #Shrek5

I’m just going to speak my truth… I don’t think Shrek 5 is a redesign. I think it’s just that it’s 24 years later and modelling is better.
