SHOCKING footage shows the moment a student is flung into the air after a driver ploughs into a group of friends in a brawl outside a city centre club.
Nottinghamshire Police shared the chilling video today just days after 25-year-old Mohammed Alam was jailed for almost three years.
CCTV footage showed Mohammed hunting down his victim and sending him flying over the bonnet of his VW Golf in Goldsmith Street, Nottingham.
The incident took place on October 27, 2023, at around 2.45am after a fight had started outside a city nightclub in Nottingham.
It was heard in court that the violence that broke out was started after a reveller gestured at Mohammed to slow down as he drove along Talbot Street at approximately 2.45am.
The street had been busy with people leaving Rock City and the reveller tapped the roof of Mohammed’s car as he drove past, as if to demonstrate his annoyance at the speed it was going.
This led to Mohammed and his older brother Parvaz Alam getting out of the vehicle with a third person.
Mohammed then approached the reveller and shoved him in the face, this caused a mass brawl and led to security guards intervening.
The brothers returned to the vehicle and drove away, but then on Goldsmith Street they saw a group of students who had become involved in the brawl and the then 25-year-old proceeded to drive at them.
The majority jumped out of the way, but first-year Nottingham Trent law and business student, Aiden Shephard, was hit.
He was left so badly injured that he required skin grafts and could not walk for months following surgery.
In a victim impact statement, the injured student said: “Following my surgery, I have scars and so now I won’t wear shorts unless I absolutely have to.
“This summer I only really wore shorts in really hot weather.
“Even when only holiday, I had to make sure my left leg wasn’t in too much sunlight because it’s so sensitive and I wouldn’t know it had burnt. The most difficult part for me was this had an effect on my rugby.
“Sports are a massive part of my life and I play for the Nottingham Trent University team.
“I missed out on games and thought because of this I might not be able to play again. It’s only down to my dedication and drive that I’ve made sure this wasn’t taken away from me.”
In the CCTV footage, the car can be seen mounting the pavement and driving towards a group of people before hitting Mr Shephard.
Mohammed Alam was arrested after police recognised him from footage of the incident.
His brother Parvaz, 29, was also arrested after CCTV showed he was involved in the initial fight that sparked the deliberate hit-and-run incident.
Mohammed Alam, of Pembridge Close, Basford, pleaded guilty to affray, inflicting grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving.
He was jailed for two years and 10 months on Friday, November 29, which was also his 26th birthday.
Parvaz Alam, also of Pembridge Close, Basford, pleaded guilty to affray.
He was given a community order with 200 hours of unpaid work and must also pay £250 in compensation.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Madeline Flint-Foster, who led the investigation, said: “Mohammed Alam’s actions that night were extremely reckless and have had a profound impact on his victim.
“It is just by pure luck that no-one was killed. His behaviour clearly shows that he is a risk to the community and I am pleased he is now behind bars.”
