A traffic stop on a vehicle with no license plates in San Marino led to the arrests of three men who police believe were conspiring to commit theft.
According to a San Marino Police Department press release, an officer patrolling in the 2300 block of Roanoke Road found a vehicle that had no license plates with three men inside around 1 p.m. Friday.
The driver of the car, 34-year-old Altadena resident Cesar Jimenez, was found to be on probation for burglary, and a record check confirmed he had an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction.
The man sitting in the front passenger seat, Jesus Rodriguez, had no identification and told officers he was on parole for assault; a records check indicated the 30-year-old L.A. resident was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer or firefighter.
Jose Jimenez-Aguilar, 34, was identified as the man sitting in the rear passenger seat, authorities said. He also did not have any ID, and while a records check found he was not on probation or parole, an officer on scene recognized him as a suspect who had been arrested previously by San Marino police.
“All three occupants were detained, and a consent search of the vehicle was conducted,” officials stated. “Officers located a box of gloves, face masks, finger covers, bolt cutters, a neck gator and a drone inside the vehicle.”
“Based on the information discovered, it is believed that the three suspects conspired to commit grand theft of gardening equipment,” police elaborated.
Each of the arrestees was taken to the Pasadena City Jail for booking; a probation hold and parole hold were obtained for two of the men, and one of them was later transported to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Inmate Reception Center to be held for court, San Marino police said.
