Police are searching for the suspected driver behind a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian in South Los Angeles on Friday night.
The LAPD said it was around 10:10 p.m. when the victim, who was only identified as a man in his 60s, was crossing the street at Wall Street and Manchester Avenue.
As the pedestrian was crossing northbound on Wall Street, he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Manchester Avenue at an unknown speed.
“The vehicle continued without stopping to identify themselves or render aid, as required by law,” the LAPD said in a release.
Paramedics with the L.A. Fire Department arrived to render aid, but ultimately pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
Details are limited, and police said there was no description of the vehicle available as of Saturday afternoon.
“Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” the LAPD said.
In addition, s reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
