WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — With snow back in the forecast, school districts across Northern Virginia announced that classes have been canceled or will be held virtually on Wednesday.
This comes after the National Weather Service (NWS) issued winter weather advisories for part of Virginia and Maryland with snow accumulations between one and two inches.
As a result, school districts announced that the following schools will be closed on Feb. 19:
- Stafford County Public Schools | Closed
- Spotsylvania County Public Schools | Closed with remote learning day.
- Fredericksburg City Public Schools, Va. | Closed with remote learning day.
- School officials said some students have at-home learning packets while other students will complete work on Canvas or online.
The NWS issued the winter weather advisory for Stafford, Spotsylvania, and St. Mary’s counties in Virginia and Charles County, King George County, and Calvert County in Maryland.
The advisories will go into effect at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and hold until 10 p.m.
NWS said as snow begins to fall, roads could become slick and hazardous.
DC News Now will update this story as additional school divisions announce closures or delays.
