A SCHOOLBOY has been left in a serious condition in hospital after being struck by a bus while riding his bike.
Emergency crews raced to the scene in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, at around 11.45am yesterday morning.
The alarm was raised after the nine-year-old was hit by a bus on the slip road between Glasgow Road and the A77.
He was riding his bike at the time.
The youngster was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow following the horror smash.
His condition is described as serious.
No one on the bus was injured.
The road was closed for around five hours as officers carried out enquiries.
It was reopened again at 5pm.
Cops have urged anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident to get in touch.
Sergeant Brian Simpson said: “Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of this incident.
“I would urge any witnesses or anyone with information to contact us.
“Drivers with dash-cam who were on this road around the time of the crash are asked to review their footage and please contact us if it holds anything relevant.
“Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 1248 of 16 February.”
