Police tracked down and arrested a Santa Ana resident less than one day after he allegedly hit a man with his car and drove off, leaving the victim to ultimately die in the street.
Reports show that the suspect struck Ralph Marin, 31, also of Santa Ana, who was walking across Bristol Street near Park Lane early morning Sunday.
The Santa Ana Police Department said officers and medical crews responded to the call around 12:30 a.m., but despite life-saving measures, they pronounced Marin deceased at the scene.
Investigators found that Marin was run over a second time after the hit-and-run, but the second driver remained with him and cooperated with authorities.
Detectives soon identified the hit-and-run suspect as 42-year-old Eric Serafin Bahena.
Police identified Bahena and his vehicle by looking through surveillance footage from two locations in the city.
Bahena was detained after leaving a residence in the 1800 block of West Glenwood Place on Sunday. The time of his arrest was not immediately available.
Officers also found his car in the 1600 block of West 3rd Street and impounded it as evidence.
Bahena was booked at the Santa Ana Jail on suspicion of a felony hit-and-run.
