Sandi Toksvig has opened up about officiating the wedding of her friend, ABBA‘s Björn Ulvaeus, in Copenhagen last month.
The comedian, 66, has been friends with the Swedish singer, 79, since 2015 after she organised a Scandinavian-themed Women of the World festival, which saw an appearance from Björn for a rendition of Waterloo.
The pair went onto collaborate on the popular interactive show, Mamma Mia: The Party! in 2018, before Björn called on Sandi to oversee his nuptials to Christina Sas, 51.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, Sandi spoke about the intimate ceremony, revealing that Björn’s ABBA bandmate Benny Andersson was also in attendance.
Gushing about her friend, she said: ‘Björn is a very gentle, not divaish person; he and I are both humanists.

‘Christina, his new wife, is Danish, and I was able to conduct the service with some Danish, some Swedish and some English.’
The presenter added: ‘I first did a sort of funny bit, then put on a red gown and did a simple commitment speech while they exchanged vows and rings.
‘There were about 130 guests. Benny played the piano — not Abba tunes.’
However, when asked if the other two members of ABBA, Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad were present, Sandi said: ‘No’.
Björn, who has been married twice before, revealed his happy news by sharing a number of photos from the ‘extra special’ day where Christina wore a stunning khaki dress and Sandi could be seen in her red clergy robes.
The message on his Instagram read: ‘Today on the 21st of September 2024, Björn Ulvaeus married Christina Sas from Herning, Denmark.
‘They met in Nürnberg in 2021 in connection with the release of ABBA’s last album Voyage and started dating in the spring of 2022.
‘The wedding took place in Copenhagen in the presence of close friends and family. Sandi Toksvig, Anne Linnet and Kaya Brüel generously performed and made the evening extra special.’

During their first public appearance together in June 2022, Björn and Christina told reporters: ‘We have dated for a while and I felt like I wanted to take her to this event. So this is the first time we go out together.’

The following year, he announced his 41 year marriage to his second wife, music journalist Lena Kallersjo, 75, was over.
In February 2022 Björn and Lena, who share two daughters Emma, 42, and Anna, 38, released a joint statement confirming their split which they agreed to jointly share their £100million assets equally.
Björn was famously also previously married to his bandmate Agnetha, meeting when she was just 19 years old and he was a member of a popular folk group, five years her senior.
They tied the two years later in 1971, the year before Abba was formed and welcomed children Linda, 49, and Peter, 44, together, before they split in 1979.
At the time, Björn and Agnetha described their break-up as a ‘happy divorce’ but Agnetha later confessed she had felt ‘mangled’ and had needed counselling.
The pain of the split was immortalised in the hit The Winner Takes It All, and many fans have wondered over the years if Björn was being deliberately cruel in asking his ex-wife to sing the tragic lyric: ‘Tell me does she kiss like I used to kiss you?’
