The moment that snowsports fans have been waiting for is finally almost here, with the Winter Olympics officially kicking off in Milano Cortina on 6 February.
Over the two–week competition, athletes from around the world will go head–to–head across 16 disciplines, including alpine skiing, curling, luge, and figure skating.
So, how do you keep this many athletes connected across the Olympic Village?
Samsung has the answer, in the form of an all–new device.
The Galaxy Z Flip7 Olympic Edition will be provided to the almost 3,800 Olympians and Paralympians in Milano Cortina, allowing them to connect with their fans, snap podium selfies, and track their workouts.
The futuristic device – which is emblazoned with the Olympic Rings – is not for sale, and will only be provided to athletes from 30 January.
However, the Daily Mail’s Science & Technology Editor, Shivali Best, managed to get her hands on the Galaxy Z Flip7 Olympic Edition to see what all the fuss is about.
And it turns out there’s one key feature that will likely prove very popular amongst this year’s single athletes.

Design
It was one of the most popular phone designs of the early 2000s – and now the flip–phone is back!
The Galaxy Z Flip7 Olympic Edition features a clamshell design, with a 6.9–inch display that can be folded in half – perfect for popping into the pocket of a tracksuit.
While the non–Olympic version comes in four colours (Blue Shadow, Jetblack, Coralred, and Mint), Samsung has opted for a stunning royal blue hue for the back glass on this exclusive model.
According to the tech giant, this colour ‘aligns with the unique style of Milano Cortina 2026’.
The frame of the device is a luxurious gold metal, while the back features the Olympic rings alongside the Paralympic symbol and Samsung’s logo.
What’s more, the device has a special Olympic Winter Games–themed wallpaper pre–installed, which almost resembles the curves left on the ice by a skater.
This chic design is bound to be a people pleaser, and who knows – the gold edges might inspire the athletes to strive for that gold medal!

Apps
The device comes pre–loaded with a suite of apps, although athletes can also download their own apps.
There’s an Athlete365 app offering performance and mental health support, as well as the official Olympic Games app, where athletes can find information about the events.
However, the pre–installed app that I think will really prove popular is the Galaxy Athlete Card.
This app features a personalised card for each athlete, including their photo, name, sport, and the country they’re representing – as well as a link to their Instagram.
Samsung claims this tool will ‘encourage connection among athletes’ – and that will certainly be the case for singletons looking to slide into any DMs while competing in Milano Cortina!
Camera
Users will be able to snap photos around the Olympic Village using the phone’s dual–rear camera system, which includes a 50MP wide and 12MP Ultra–Wide lens.

This includes on–stage, where athletes can snap ‘Victory Selfies’ with their competitors and teammates.
However, the Dual Recording feature will surely be the most talked–about camera tool.
As the name suggests, this feature uses the rear and front cameras at the same time, allowing you to capture both what you see, and your own reactions.
Whether it’s while speaking to their parents after winning a medal, or while watching friends compete in a particularly intense event, this interactive element will be a fantastic way to engage with fans, family and teammates.
AI tools
As with most new phones, the Galaxy Z Flip7 has several AI tools that will be helpful in Milano Cortina.
Athletes who struggle to keep up with their packed schedule will enjoy the ‘Now Brief’ tool, which provides personalised daily updates including reminders, calendar events and fitness summaries.
Meanwhile, those trying to speak to athletes from other countries will find the Interpreter tool invaluable.
Using AI, this tool provides real–time translation regardless of network connection – including in the remote mountains where signal is sparse.
Unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 Olympic Edition is not for sale, so you’ll only be able to get one if you’re competing at the Winter Games.
